Durham suffer Johnson blow

Have your say

DURHAM have been dealt a blow as Aussie Mitchell Johnson has been ruled out of their Friends Life T20 campaign.

Johnson was due to join the Dynamos as an overseas player for the forthcoming competition, but will now miss the tournament after being called up by Australia.

He was today named in their 15-man squad which will tour England and Ireland in June and July for the One Day International Series.

Dynamos Chief Executive David Harker was disheartened with the news, but remains positive for Durham.

He said: “Obviously we’re disappointed that Mitchell won’t be joining us. We’re going to assess our options before we decide whether we will replace him.

“With the addition of Herschelle Gibbs to the set-up we have a very strong squad so anyone we bring in would need to add something to the team.”

Johnson returns to the Australia squad after recovering from a foot injury and is hoping a good series will see him selected for the World Twenty20 this September.

Durham start their Friends Life T20 campaign with a trip to Headingley to face Yorkshire Carnegie on June 15.
