DURHAM U17 Women enjoyed a double success against Cumbria at Kendal, winning by 49 runs in their County Championship Group A clash and beating the same opposition in a friendly earlier in the day.

The visitors totalled 125-2 as Helen Fenby hit 56 before being run out, backed by 22 from Laura Jones.

Durham’s bowlers then dominated the home side’s batters, skittling them for 76 in 18.2 overs as Athena Fernyhough (3-5 in one over), Sophie Jacobson (2-11) and Bethany Walker (2-5 in three overs) proved all but unplayable.

The sides also played a friendly. Cumbria managed to reach 100-8 in their 40 overs, with Fernyhough, Fenby and Courtney Coulson all striking twice for Durham.

Durham needed just 26.2 overs to polish off the total, with Coulson (24), Courtney Rowlands (20) and Fernyhough (18) leading the way for the loss of five wickets.

H Durham U13 Girls succumbed by four runs to Cumbria in their ECB County League Development Group One game at Nunwick.

Cumbria made 137-8 in their 35 overs, with Bailey Wanless the pick of the Durham bowlers, grabbing 4-10, while Layla Tipton bagged 2-11.

Despite a brilliant start to their reply, with openers Tipton and Wanless making 34 and 56 respectively, only four other visiting players got off the mark and Durham fell five runs short of victory on 133-8.
