RYHOPE cruised to a welcome second win of the season in the 3D Sports Durham Coast League on Saturday.
It was carnival time at Peterlee, so there was a fortuitous switch of venue to Ryhope, which was one of the few dry spots in the North East!
Already some way adrift at the foot of the table, Peterlee were soon in trouble as John Errington claimed three early wickets.
Min Mahill then began a fightback, striking three fours and three sixes in a defiant 48 until he became the first of Mickey Thorpe’s four victims, which saw the innings wrapped up for 134 in 40.5 overs.
Ryhope rattled along at nearly six an over in the run chase as they tried to stay in front of the clock and the gathering storm clouds.
Paul Howe opened with 36, and then Chris Lawrence (six fours in 37no) and Connor Pearson (a six and six boundaries in 38no) combined to see their side to an eight-wicket win inside 24 overs.
The Price was right at Hylton where Easington’s Andrew Price ruled the roost with an impressive bowling display in a seven-wicket success.
The normally prolific home batting line-up faltered against Price (5-20) and Dane Wilson (4-31) to be bowled out for just 84 in 29 overs.
Openers Liam Foster (28) and Gary Braithwaite (20) had given Hylton the type of start they are used to, but once Price removed both it all went rapidly downhill with no one else reaching double figures.
Easington looked to have an easy enough task, but the loss of three wickets and a 40-minute interruption for rain threatened to thwart the visitors, so, when play eventually resumed, Dave Tarn speeded things up, cracking three fours and two sixes to seal victory unbeaten on 38.
