WARREN Baister was today named in the England team for the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Sunderland boxer has been selected in the heavyweight division by his country for the eagerly anticipated tournament in Glasgow next month.

Baister and his team-mates, male and female, were unveiled at a media conference at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield. where he works on a daily basis as part of Great Britain’s elite boxing programme.

The 28-year-old has fully recovered from the badly cut eye he suffered on the way to ABA glory in Liverpool in April.

“All’s fine with my eye,” he told the Echo.

“I’ve been sparring the last two weeks, with Lawrence Osueke and Frazer Clarke and there have been no problems.

“I needed 13 stitches, five inside and eight outside, it was a pretty bad cut, but it has healed totally.”

Baister goes into the Commonwealths in good heart after his success ion the ABA Championship, outpointing slick London southpaw James Branch in the final at the Echo Arena.
