Sunderland ABC hope to have another national champion this weekend.

Eleven-year-old Mason Lodge is through the final of the National Schools Championships.

He has boxed in every round of the competition and has shown great class and a true fighting spirit against some of the top boxers in the country in his age group.

The young Wearsider has probably not lost a round so far on his progress to the final.

In the semis, he beat Daniel Kerrigan (St. Peter’s, Humberside), with a unanamous decision.

In the final, he will take on Caleb Price (Pinewood Stars), hoping to clinch gold in his first attempt.

The championships are being held in Manchester at a venue yet to be confirmed.

Meanwhile, Great Britain boxer Kiaran Macdonald is heading to Uzbekistan for a training camp.

The Sunderland ABC star will also be boxing in a multi-nation tournament.

He took bronze in the recent Tri Nation GB tournament, losing to a Welsh opponent on a split decision.
