TWO Sunderland ABC fighters have progressed to national finals after emerging victorious from the Senior Novice North East finals at the Rainton Meadows Arena.

Matthew Stewart, 19, prospered in the 71kg category, beating Dunston ABC’s John Carse, who was eventually disqualified for holding after coming in for something of a battering from the Wearsider.

Then Siquib “Moon” Sidiqui, in the 75kg class, produced an all-action display against Adam Chalmers of North Shields to take a unanimous decision.

The Arena in Houghton also hosted the Tyne Tees and Wear pre-quarter-final stage of the Clubs for Young Persons’ Championships.

Sunderland ABC 16-year-old Kieran McDonald turned on the power against Hull City’s Joshua Kingsley to earn a first-round stoppage.

Club-mate Steven Pattison had a much tougher task against Denzel Browne of Leeds club Burmantofts, before eventually progressing thanks to a majority decision.

Both Wearsiders now go into the national quarter-finals to be held in Liverpool.

* Sunderland ABC will hosting a Dinner Boxing Show at the Barnes pub on Friday, November 15, with tickets priced £15 including a three-course meal and entertainment.
