Sedgefield boxer Jeff Saunders is ‘raw but exciting’ says promoter Eddie Hearn

But Jeff Saunders delivered another devastating blink-and-you-will-miss-it performance at the Manchester Arena.

The Sedgefield welterweight made it three first-round KOs in a row when he knocked out Istvan Kiss in 15 seconds. Yes, that’s correct, 15 seconds

Promoters, Matchroom, had brought over the Hungarian to try to get some rounds under the belt of Saunders.

It did not go to plan. He barely got in two punches, let alone two rounds.

The 23-year-old crunched in a body shot and down went Kiss and down he stayed, with referee Mark Lyson counting him out.Kiss recovered and left the ring with a smile though he had clearly been hurt by the shot.

Promoter Eddie Hearn seemed to have mixed emotions, thrilled at the talent he has on his books and frustrated we are not getting to see much of it.

“Three fights, three first round knock-outs, he hits really hard,” said Hearn with half a smile.

“People up in the stands probably saw it and thought ‘what happened there?’.

“Kiss took one right in the solar plexus and he’s a tough guy, very durable so he must have been hurt.

“Jeff’s very raw, but very exciting.”

Elsewhere on the packed bill, a cut left eye ended Glenn Foot’s challenge for the British and Commonwealth welterweight titles in the ninth round.

Referee Steve Gray ruled the wound, which required five stitches, as an accidental clash of heads so it went to the judges scorecards, all three marking it for Sam Eggington.

Bury’s Scott Quigg retained his WBA super-bantam title by stopping Spain’s Kiko Martinez, but there was no fairytale return for Anthony Crolla.

The Manchester lightweight, fighting for the first time since suffering a fractured skull after trying to apprehend a burglar, saw his challenge for Darley Perez’s WBA belt end in a draw.
