Pat McCormack has joined fellow Wearside comrade Josh Kelly in the quarter-finals at the World Olympic Qualifier in Azerbaijan.
McCormack outpointed Geogia’s Lasha Guruli in the last 16 of the light-welterweight division this afternoon in Baku and is now just one win from Rio.
The Washington star dominated the U64 kilo contest, winning through on all three judges’ scorecards.
Victory in his last eight bout on Thursday against France’s Hassan Amzile will take him to Brazil.
It was not an easy match for the Birtleyn ABC star.
Guruli came to the ring with a good reputation but McCormack made a confident start in the Crystal Hall by taking the opening round.
He followed suit in the next two sessions to take a convincing success and maintain his proud record of not having lost a round in the competition in Azerbaijan.
