The Hartlepool boxer had been the only member of the Gus Robinson Developments triumverite not to have been matched for the show at Rainton Meadows Arena on Friday night.

But Cope now has an opponent and an ambitious one – Czech Republic teenager Daniel Bazo.

The busy 18-year-old has raced through seven bouts in his professional career – three wins, three defeats and a draw.

However, to use boxing-speak, he “comes to win” as he proved in London last month when he outpointed Cockney crowd-favourite Ryan “Crash Bang” Taylor at the York Hall.

Gus Robinson Developments head coach Peter Cope Snr told SportMail: “It’s a relief to have Peter matched.

“Bazo is certainly a live one and looks like being a real handful.

“He’s young and fresh and had a couple of KO wins along the way – this is a hard fight for Peter but one I’m confident he will come through.

“I do believe Peter will fight for titles and hopefully we can move forward in 2016, but he must get this kid out of the way first.”

Gus Robinson stablemate Anth Hardy faces Lee Connelly and Billy Snaith debuts against Paul O’Brien on the same event.
