RISING Sunderland boxing star Isaac Macleod claimed an epic 10th national title at the weekend after a powerhouse display in the Junior ABA finals.

The 18-year-old Sunderland ABC fighter’s stablemate, Jack Storey, was not so fortunate though – the 16-year-old losing in his first appearance in the Junior ABA finals in Mansfield.

But two other young boxers also brought national titles back to Wearside, with Washington twins Pat and Luke McCormack, who box out of Birtley ABC, recording fine victories to add to their own bulging list of titles.

Macleod, fighting in the 67kg category, underlined his undoubted potential in a fantastic contest in which he outclassed and battered highly-rated West Ham opponent Jordan Reynolds, winning all four rounds.

Storey took on two-time national champion Billy Lea (Pinewood Star) in the 85kg category, with Lea being just too strong for the Sunderland ABC 16-year-old, who put up a game performance before the referee stepped in to make a first-round stoppage.

But both Storey and Macleod will now go on to compete in the tri-nations competition – as will the McCormacks.

Luke McCormack beat Archie Sharpe of Lynn AC at 57kg, while Pat, at 60kg, beat Jake Smith of Paddy St Johns.

Another Birtley ABC boxer, Callum French, beat Danny Arnold of St Pancras, while Birtley’s final finalist, 15-year-old Isaac Milburn lost to West Ham’s Charlie Kenny.
