SUNDERLAND’S Glenn Foot now knows the exact scale of the task ahead of him next week, after the last four boxers in the eight-strong line-up for the latest Sky Prizefighter show were announced.

Midlands trio Calum Cooper, Rob Hunt, Steven Pearce and Mancunian Mark Thompson were unveiled this week as the final four contests in the Prizefighter; Welterweights III event due to be held at Wolverhampton Civic Hall next Saturday, January 19.

Like Foot, opponents Cooper and Pearce have unblemished records which means in all there will be unbeaten fighters going head-to-head on the night.

Promoter Eddie Hearn had the task of selecting the final four names from 20 possible contenders and he believes whoever claims the £32,000 winner’s cheque will have had to earn it the hard way.

“Picking the final fighters for January 19 was a real headache as all the names in the hat had a strong case,” said Hearn.

“It’s another hungry group of boxers who will put it all on the line in Wolverhampton and move themselves into a strong position in one of the most competitive divisions in Britain.

“The Civic Hall is a great venue for Prizefighter with the packed house right on top of the action, and we’re expecting a great night in the Black Country.”

This is Foot’s, of Marley Pots, big break on the national stage and he is determined to grab it with both gloves.

He told the Echo: “I think the Prizefighter format suits my style – all-action formats where you’ve got to come out on the night and deliver.

“I know I’m going to be in with some really good fighters, but I’m honestly looking forward to it and can’t wait.

“It goes without saying that I’m working hard to make sure I’m in the best possible shape on the night. It’s an opportunity I want to make the most of.”

The Betfair Prizefighter Welterweights III kicks off the action next Saturday before Kal Yafai’s first taste of action in 2013 – a year that promises much for the Beijing Olympian who raced to 6-0 with five wins inside the distance in the second half of 2012 after only turning pro in July.

Tickets for the Yafai and the Betfair Prizefighter Welterweights III are available from Matchroom Boxing priced £40 unreserved, £60 ringside and £100 VIP.

Tickets can be bought online at or on 01277 359900.
