Kelly will now meet Aaron Prince in the quarter-finals on Thursday evening when victory would seal a place in Rio.

The 22-year-old welterweight produced a dominant bout against a tough opponent in Baku tonight.

Arro has held his own on the big stage and, having come down from the U75 kilo division, was seen as a difficult hurdle for the Houghton ABC star to clear.

But second seed Kelly was never in any danger, winning all three rounds on the judges scorecards, who marked it 30-27.

Kelly’s Wearside neighbour Pat McCormack will be looking to join the Port of Call-sponsored boxer in the last eight tomorrow.

The Washington boxer is in the round of 16 action tomorrow in Baku where he meets Lasha Guruli, from Georgia, at light-welterweight.
