ST AIDAN’S staged their 56th Ashbrooke Road Relay around Backhouse Park and they took the bronze medals in the senior boys’ race.
While Newcastle’s Royal Grammar School dominated by taking gold and silver medals, the Saints cruised into third spot.
Each senior year is represented in the six-stage relay and Royal Grammar ran out easy winners, clocking 52min 43sec, with their B team recording 57.33. St Aidan’s stopped the clock on 59.54.
St Aidan’s individual times were Joseph Woods (10.34), Robert Dunlop (10.16), Niroj Arulthas (10.25), Aidan Paget (10.18), Joel Hassan (8.53) and Nicholas Killeen (9.28).
Joel Hassan won the Moran trophy for the fastest time set by a St Aidan’s runner.
In the Primary Schools’ relay, Houghton St Michael’s ran out easy winners (36.24), beating Hill View (39.58) into second place. St Michael’s first-leg runner Edward McCoy was the fastest on the course on the opening lap, with his circuit of 5.19. The rest of the school times were Thomas McCoy (5.54), Lucy Scothern (6.15), Jack Turner (5.52) Kyle Akenhead (6.41) and Edward Brown (6.23). Hill View’s times were: Harry Thompson (6.29), Daniel Weaver (5.37), Georgia Jenner (6.19), Daniel Lynn (7.06), Daniel Buckley (6.22) and Kyle Chipp (6.05).
