Schools victory for Durham

DURHAM won the Inter County Schools’ match at Gateshead beating Northumberland, Cleveland and Cumbria.

The match was a final opportunity for athletes to gain selection for the English Schools’ Championships at Gateshead on July 1 and 2.

Durham’s winners were:

Junior Boys: 80m hurdles Daniel Whitehead 13.1, High Jump – Anthony Hogg 1.78, Javelin – Fin Connor Watson 37.34.

Junior Girls: Shot: Kayleigh Brown 9.42, High Jump: Alex Bainbridge 1.51, 75m Hurdles: Lucy Turner 11.4, Long Jump: Alona Lonsdale 5.29.

Inter Boys: 400m hurdles: Joey Williams 60.5, Long Jump: Ryan King 6.44, Triple Jump: Jason Clark 12.38, 1500m steeplechase: Barry Maskell 4.37.7, 3000m: Luke Clark 9.29.9.

Inter Girls: 300m Hurdles: Georgia Whitfield 45.4, 80m Hurdles: Abigail Smith 12.4, Triple Jump: Racheal McHugh 11.19.

Senior Boys: 400m Hurdles: Karl Murray 58.3, 800m: Liam Ayton 1.57.7,

Senior Girls: Nicole Burlinson: 59.9.

H Durham City baker Terry Wall finished fourth (33.20) and first over-40 in yesterday’s Aycliffe 10k Road Race won by Durham’s new recruit James Askew in 33.08. Second was Mike Jeffries from Billingham (33.14).

Sunderland Strollers had Mike Armstrong in 30th (39.47) and Alyson West sixth veteran in 68th (43.05). Houghton Harrier Kelly Bentley finished second over-45 in 85th (44.14). The women’s winner was Blackhill Bounder Sarah Lister (39.43).

Sunderland Harriers had Brian Cook in 63rd (43.00) and David White 105th (45.13) in the over-60 category won by Chester-le-Street’s David McGuckin (42.33).

H Sunderland Harrier Jack Martin clocked a personal best of 8.35.53 when finishing seventh in the Trafford Grand Prix 3000m.
