SUNDERLAND Harriers set a host of personal bests in the Tynedale Harriers 10k at Ovingham.

Leading the charge was Noel Hitchcock, who finished 10th in 35min 18sec, followed by Matthew Knowles in 27th (36.24), Mustafa Gun 83rd (PB 39.52) and over-40 Tony Allinson 97th (PB 40.35).

Sunderland Strollers had Tim Allsop, an over-45, in 32nd (36.47), Michael Edwards 40th (37.21) and over-55 Kevin Blyth 90th (40.19),

The race was won by Morpeth’s Thomas Straughan (33.48) and the women’s winner was Jarrow and Hebburn’s Angela McGurk (39.12).

H Durham City Harriers’ cross country international Rosie Smith finished a superb fourth overall (35.16) in the Durham Pitstop 10k road race at Croft motor racing circuit.

Sunderland Harriers placed Michael Barker in eighth (35.28) and Steve Potts ninth (35.38).

The race winner was James Bulman (33.12) and the New Marske Harrier was in action again yesterday, gaining a double by winning the Hamsterley 10k multi terrain race in 33.52.

The women’s winner was Morpeth’s Emma Holt, who finished ninth overall in 39.04.

H Sunderland Strollers had the first three home in the Sunderland parkrun at Silksworth Sports Complex. Steve Rankin (17.16), Michael Laws (17.25) and Andy Powell (17.51) headed the 142-strong field.
