H Sunderland Harrier Patrick Martin bounced back to form at the Trafford Grand Prix 3000m at Stretford after dropping out of the 5000m at Sport City, Manchester, last Saturday. He beat a big field to win the race in 8.21.29 – just outside his best for the distance.

He said: “At Sport City I went through two miles at 14 minute pace, but I think I set off too quick. The B race would have suited me more at the moment. I’m just not sharp enough. But I’m pleased with my run at Stretford in windy conditions.”

Result: Patrick Martin (Sunderland Harr) 8.21.29, Joe Bailey (Salford) 8.21.65, 3 Nick Hooker (Leeds City) 8.22.82, 4 James Smith (Leeds City) 8.22.83, 5 Andi Jones (Salford) 8.29.06
