Jenkin lands Cookson Cup success

DURHAM City Harrier Dan Jenkin outsprinted Jarrow and Hebburn’s Andy Burn by three seconds to win the Clive Cookson Cup 10k Road Race at Monkseaton.

Jenkin. who led throughout the race, which was run in the opposite direction to previous year’s because of safety reasons, clocked 31min 50sec.

In third place, over the tougher course, was Morpeth’s Carl Avery (31.55) and his clubmate Ross Floyd finished fifth (32.49).

Sunderland Harrier Craig Isherwood just failed to catch Floyd, finishing fifth (32.51). Michael Barker finished 14th (34.49), Steven Potts 22nd (35.25) and Ian Dixon 34th (37.04). Potts was second over-35 veteran to finish.

Sunderland hopes of a team prize were dashed when Potts and Dixon were taken out of the four-to-count team race, through being counted as over-35 veterans.

Sunderland Strollers had Andy Powell in 25th (35.44), Aidan Crowe 76th 39.01, Gary Hargrave 186th 44.11, Paul Roddy 206th 45.58, Steve McCoy 242nd 47.22, Richard Wilson 303rd 51.14, Paul Lewins 325th 53.40, Shelia Hudson 338th 55.53 and Michelle Donnelly 374th 66.19.
