A large group of Sunderland Harriers took part in the relatively new event, The Friday Night 5k, around the paths of Temple Park Leisure Centre at South Shields.
They were in search of quick times in the race won by Saltwell Harrier Abraham Tewelde (15min 22sec).
He was followed by Jed Marshall (Gateshead) 15.27 and George Lowry (Jarrow and Hebburn) 15.42.
First home for Sunderland was Kevin Jeffress in fifth (15.46), while Ian Ritchie was sixth (15.56 PB) and Andy Powell finished seventh (16.08).
They were followed by ninth-placed Ian Dixon V40 (16.14 PB), Michael Thompson V45 (16.22) in 12th, Michael Barker (16.34) in 14th, Steven Duffy (16.44) in 15th, Steve Rankin (17.12) in 16th, Paul Collins V50 (18.20) in 41st and Darren Stoker V40 (18.39) in 46th.
Three Sunderland Strollers all recorded personal bests – Mark Anderson (17.21) in 21st place, John Cook (17.22) in 22nd and Jamie Collin (17.24) in 24th.
Georgie Campbell (Jarrow and Hebburn) won the women’s race (18.16) from Sunderland Harrier Alice Smith (18.17).
Michael Wilson just missed out on a bronze medal in the England Athletics Championships at Bedford yesterday.
The Sunderland Harrier and Northern 800m champion finished fifth as he ran out of steam in the home straight in just failing to catch the bronze medalist.
Sunderland Harrier Eve Quinn, on holiday in Devon, clocked a personal best for 800m in the British Milers’ Club Grand Prix in Exeter. She finished second in the B race in 2.23.77.
