Everything’s Rosie as Smith sets new record

Have your say

DURHAM City Harrier Rosie Smith got the better of her great rival Alyson Dixon to win the women’s race and set a new course record in the Aycliffe 10k yesterday, writes Kevin Carr.

She finished a magnificent sixth overall to clock 34.25 to shatter Aiveen Fox’s 2005 mark of 35.47.

She gained sweet revenge on Dixon, who beat her for third place in last week’s Blaydon Race. Dixon, who clocked 34.41 in seventh, beat Smith by three seconds and two places at Blaydon

In third place was Middlesbrough Mandale’s Josephine Stone (35.48) followed by Angela Hibbs (36.50) and Durham’s Aiveen Fox (38.13).

Durham’s James Askew won the race (32.18) by just one second from New Marske’s James Bulman and Leeds City runner Jach Simpson was third (32.23).

Sunderland Strollers had Tim Allsop in tenth (35.22), Steve Rankin 11th (35.41), Niall McArdle 20th (36.47) and David Groak 98th (45.03). Sunderland Harrier David Savage was 82nd (43.42).
