SUNDERLAND Stroller Alyson Dixon has been selected for the World Half Marathon Championships in Denmark.

She joins Leeds City runner Susan Partridge as one of only two women to be picked for Copenhagen on Saturday, March 29.

The British Athletics selectors could have picked up to five for the trip, but after the trial race in the Reading Half Marathon on Sunday, only Partridge and Dixon had the qualifying times.

Partridge won in a time under the qualifying mark (72.30), recording 72.18 in testing conditions.

Dixon was third in 73.07 but boasts the time from the Bath Half Marathon last year (71.19).

This will be Dixon’s second appearance in the World Championship, she was part of the GB & NI team for this event when it was held in Birmingham in 2009 and will look to put that experience to good use.

The 35-year-old, who arrived back from altitude training in Kenya last week, said: “I’m delighted to be selected for the World Half.

“All the hard work has paid off. It was a tough day at the office at Reading. I hoped I had done enough for selection.’’

At Reading, Morpeth Harrier Nick Swinburn was 12th (66.48) and former Sunderland Harrier Jack Martin was 13th (66.56).

H Sunderland Harrier Steven Duffy was eighth in the Haweswater Half Marathon (77.53).
