SUNDERLAND Harrier Kevin Calvert ended his North East Athletics League programme on a high – by winning the senior men’s 3,000m at Gateshead.

He clocked 8.55.51 in the meeting that was interrupted by 30 minutes through torrential rain.

Clubmate Sam McKenzie finished third in the junior women’s 200m (28.40), Anthony Barnes also finished third in his junior men’s 200m (25.01) and Josh Wilson was third under-15 boy in 26.82.

Houghton Harriers’ Lewis Thompson was first in the under-17 long jump (4.40) and Laura Fenwick was third in the under-17 300m (47.4).

Plains Farm athlete Charmaine Porter, who competes for Jarrow and Hebburn AC, was first in the 400m (59.31) and second in the 200m (26.63). Birtley’s Sophie Burnett won the under-15 girls’ 800m (2.27.95).

H Michael Barker led a clean sweep by Sunderland Harriers in the Sunderland parkrun at Silksworth Sports Complex on Saturday.

The Pallion athlete clocked a personal best of 16.50 and he was followed by Steve Potts (17.07) and Craig Isherwood (17.32).

Sunderland Stroller over-40 Alyson West won the women’s race in 22.44, in a field of 133 – five off the record.

Harriers’ veteran Alan Hodgson won the Riverside parkrun at Chester-le-Street in 18.24.
