5 Star Wrestling gets off to a thrilling start on FreeSports

British wrestling returned to national TV with a bang last week as 5 Star Wrestling put on a show full of drama, thrills and controversy at Liverpool Echo Arena.

As the live TV show on FreeSports went off the air, the name on everybody’s lips was ‘Liverpool’s Number 1’ Zack Gibson, who put everyone in 5 Star Wrestling on notice with his bold words and actions.

After earlier getting himself disqualified when looking close to a 'pinfall' defeat to high flying legend Rey Mysterio, Gibson ran into the ring after 5 Star Champion John Morrison had beaten Rob Van Dam in the main event title defence.

The Scouser – bitter that two Americans had been given the marquee spot on this historic show – knocked both Morrison and Van Dam down using the title belt as a weapon, then leered into the TV camera and warned that if “Yanks” ended up in the 5 Star Wrestling main event again there would be “consequences”.

If there was a Britain vs America undertone to Thursday's show, honours came out pretty much even overall.

Earlier, Yorkshire hard man Rampage Brown pinned the massive former American football star Moose, while ‘All-American American’ Jake Hager had to illegally use the ropes to overcome the plucky ‘English Lion’ Eddie Ryan.

Tap or Snap Champion

Meanwhile, the first ever 5 Star Wrestling: Tap or Snap Champion was crowned as Mark Haskins, who outlasted four other men in a 5 Star Submission Elimination Match, finally making Australia’s Joey Axl tap out to the Sharpshooter leglock.

The 5 Star Tag Team Title Tournament also began with victories for Max Money – the cocky duo of Love Island star Adam ‘Flex’ Maxted and his partner Charlie Sterling – and high flyers ‘The Phoenix’ - Jody Fleisch and El Ligero.

These two teams will meet this Thursday night (February 8) in the tournament final at Metro Radio Arena in Newcastle LIVE on FreeSports.

Aside from the first ever 5 Star Tag Team Champions being crowned, John Morrison will defend the 5 Star Championship against Jake Hager (formerly known as Jack Swagger) in the main event.
