Theresa Smith is selling raffle tickets priced £5 each for a chance to win the four-storey property, which dates back to 1803 and has a number of period features.

The counsellor, who uses the building for work, is looking to semi retire and scale down and is hoping the raffle will help her sell the property – while also raising money for a good cause.

She’s aiming to sell 80,000 tickets which will lead to one winner winning the house, with a percentage of the profits going to Veterans in Crisis, Brothers in Arms, Cuthy’s Big Bike Ride and Minds at War.

If enough tickets aren’t sold by the cut off point of June 21, the owner of the winning ticket will receive 75% of what has been raised.

Theresa said: “I will be working personally with Brothers in Arms, Veterans in Crisis Sunderland and Minds at War to identify individuals suffering PTSD that would benefit from therapeutic support.

"British military veterans who suffer from post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSD) wait an average of four years to seek support, according to a Help for Heroes study. We want to build awareness of the plight of our British service men and women.”

She added: “Of course I would like to sell my property, but how great would it be for someone to win it for a fiver and help support veterans and local charities at the same time?”

In the lead up to June there’s a number of mini raffles taking place as an added incentive for people to buy tickets with prizes donated by Frances Marshall hairdressing, who are offering a cut and blow dry at their city centre salon as well as a selection of L’Oreal hair products, Body Shop products worth £40 from a local consultant and a week’s worth of healthy meals from the Wooden Galley in Hendon, as well as a Valentine’s Day hamper.
