PlayStation State of Play 2021: UK start time, what PS5 games could be announced – and how to watch Sony stream

Just a week after Nintendo’s latest ‘Direct’ presentation, Sony have a similar live stream up their sleeves for PlayStation fans in the form of another ‘State of Play’ address.

According to the PlayStation Blog, the presentation will serve up “new updates and deep dives for 10 games coming to PS4 and PS5”, including new game announcements and updates on “some of the third-party and indie titles you last saw in June’s PS5 showcase.”

What to expect?

Until we actually get eyes on the show – which according to Sony, will clock it at “30 minutes or so, give or take” – it’s impossible to know what might be shown off as part of the stream.

“There won’t be PlayStation hardware or business-focused updates in this show,” says the PlayStation Blog. “We’re focusing on great games set to come out in the months ahead."

That’s good new for fans, after the last State of Play in October disappointed fans somewhat with a presentation that, although interesting, focused entirely on the then-upcoming PlayStation 5’s user interface.

But it also means Sony are unlikely to devote any time to its recently announced next-gen PlayStation VR system for PlayStation 5.

What will be announced?

Out gut instinct is to not expect anything to Earth-shattering in terms of announcements; with a number of high-profile first-party games due in the coming months that we haven’t seen all that much from, expect Sony to show off more footage and details on games like Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal.

Maybe Horizon Forbidden West – currently expected at the tail end of this year – could be shown off a bit more, and we know Naughty Dog are currently diverting resouces to The Last of Us Part II’s multiplayer component.

God of War: Ragnarok is another big-budget PlayStation game tentatively scheduled for a 2021 release, so maybe we’ll see more of that too?

Aside from that, smaller PlayStation exclusive games like Kena: Bridge of Spirits – which could be releasing as early as next month – and the cat-based purr-em-up Stray could benefit from some new info.

Then there are the games we already know plenty about – such as Resident Evil Village – which could get a sprinkling of more info ahead of their upcoming releases.
