Sunderland reached the last four thanks to a convincing 3-0 win over MK Dons on Tuesday night and they are in the draw with Oxford United, Tranmere Rovers and Lincoln City.

The EFL has confirmed plans for the draw plus a unique weekend for the final, with the final of last season’s competition – between Portsmouth and Salford City – still to take place.

Both finals, it has been announced, will take place over the weekend of March 13 and 14.

Portsmouth face Salford on the Saturday with this year’s final on the Sunday, both at Wembley, both with a 3pm kick-off – and on Sky Sports.

An EFL statement read: “The 2020 final between Portsmouth and Salford City was originally due to take place in March 2020 but was postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

“The 2021 Papa John’s Trophy competition is currently at the semi-final stages with Lincoln City, Oxford United, Sunderland AFC and Tranmere Rovers remaining in the competition.

"The draw for the semi-finals will be made live on Sky Sports Friday night at approximately 7:45pm in-between the two live EFL matches. Caroline Barker will be hosting with Adebayo Akinfenwa, who scored the winning goal for Swansea City in the 2006 final, selecting the ties.”

The semi-final ties will be played on Tuesday 16 February and Wednesday 17 February (6pm KO), live on Sky Sports.
