Papa John's Trophy semi-final draw: Sunderland handed tough test at home to League One high-flyers

Michael Appleton’s side currently sit top of the League One table after an emphatic 3-0 win over Gillingham on Friday night, and will provide a stern test for Lee Johnson’s side as they look to book their place at Wembley.

Sunderland ran out 4-0 winners when the sides met most recently at Sincil Bank.

Oxford United will face Tranmere Rovers at home in the other tie.

The semi-finals will take place on Tuesday 16th February and Wednesday 17th February, with both fixtures to be kick off at 6pm and screened live on Sky Sports.

The EFL confirmed earlier this week that the final will take place at Wembley on March 14th, with a 3pm kick-off.

Portsmouth and Salford City will contest the 2020 final the day before after the fixture was postponed as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Both games are to take place behind closed doors.
