A woman who was seen on the wrong side of the railings on Wearmouth Bridge was thankfully talked down by emergency services.
Police were informed of the incident shortly after 10pm on Monday.
Sunderland RNLI's D class lifeboat was launched, but the woman eventually climbed back over the railings after being talked to by police officers.
A message on Sunderland RNLI's Facebook page read: "Launched to assist Police responding to reports of a female on the wrong side of safety railings on Wearmouth Bridge.
"Thankfully after about an hour, the female agreed to climb back over the railings to safety with assistance from emergency services.
"Lifeboat volunteers were then released from the incident to return to their station and make the boat ready for its next emergency call."
