Jay Steward and Deborah-Lewis-Bynoe are chief pilot and head of fundraising for the Great North Air Ambulance Service.
Deborah said the Sunderland International Airshowias a great opportunity to rise the profile of the service and drive home the point that it depends entirely on public donations.
"We need to raise £5million a year to keep the aircraft flying," said Deborah.
"We can't do it without the support of the people, so we need all the publicity we can get."
Jay had enjoyed meeting many people whose family and friends had been helped by the service.
"So many people have come up today to express their gratitude for what we do," he said.
"And people have been coming up all day to say they did not realise how big the aircraft actually is."
