Where and when you can see the Parade of Sail: A guide to the grand finale of the Tall Ships in Sunderland

It's the grand finale and a chance to say a fond farewell to the beautiful ships that have been berthed in Sunderland for the past few days.

Here's what you need to know:

What time does it start?

The Parade of Sail will see he spectacular ships leave their berths to start the race from approximately 1.30pm.

Before they race all of the ships will sail up the coast, past Roker and Seaburn, to Souter Point in South Tyneside.

They will then turn round and head out to sea to start their race to Esbjerg in Denmark.

Where is the best spot to see the ships head out?

The best viewing points will be Roker and Seaburn beaches and promenade.

The ships will be led out by the majestic Russian ship, the Mir, and start off the Parade of Sail heading northwards to Souter Point.

What time does it finish?

Allships will have cleared Roker Pier by around 6pm.

Can I still get on board to visit the ships?

The ships will be closed to the public as they make their final safety checks and preparations to embark on the race to Esbjerg.

Are their any other events on through the day?

The official Tall Ships Makers Market continues in Event Zone C from 10am to 6pm offering local food, drink, art, design, vintage and modern crafts carefully selected from local businesses and artisan producers.

An upturned shipwreck is the stage for Citrus Arts Shipwrecks a dance and aerial performance in Event Zone A at 12noon and 2pm.
