Ecstatic Sunderland AFC fans took to social media to the 3-0 win against Everton as the club ensured its Premier League survival.

And Black Cats supporters had even more to celebrate with their win, ensuring bitter rivals Newcastle United were relegated.

"Big Sam has saved Sunderland and hopefully will take them to the Champions League next season," David Richardson wrote on the Echo Facebook page. "Well we can dream."

Sara Louise wrote: "Brilliant! The black cats killed off the two birds!"

Craig White said: "Big Sam is the most under-rated manager in England. His teams may not be easy on the eye, but he knows the Premier League inside out. Glad you stayed up, Bolton Wanderers fan."

Greta Wilkinson wrote: "The Roker roar is back - I can hear it in Scotland!"

"Both North East teams have been absolute rubbish all season and although I can't deny that I am delighted that Sunderland has managed to escape the dreaded drop, I am gutted at Newcastle being relegated," Keith Rowland wrote. "We needed both teams in the Premiership."

But he added: "I would love SAFC to be successful but this last ditch stuff every season is a bit tiresome."

Carol Stoker said: "Yes fantastic, but we have to stop doing this, we need to play good all season not just at the end, still bloody fantastic though."

"Had the hardest run in of all the teams at the bottom and done it in style," Paul Adams wrote. "So pleased for the team, Big Sam, and the fan."

Jean Barley wrote: "Haway the lads! Left it till the last minute, as usual, but it's a great result."

"Need to make sure this doesn't happen again next season," said Anthony Blacker.

Gareth and Sue Bestford wrote: "Well done boys, you' had the crowd going. What a result!"

Peter Prest added: "Thoroughly deserved, totally awesome display."

What do you think about last night's result? Should they have played more evenly all season, or is all forgiven?
