A team of decorators from Sunderland travelled to London to volunteer their services to paint new life into the refurbishment of the Lancaster West Estate in London, site of the Grenfell tower tragedy.
Featuring on the popular BBC show DIY SOS last month, the team of decorators from Sunderland-based painting and decorating contractors Alldec Northern travelled to Grenfell where they carried out decoration work to a new community centre and the Dale Youth Amateur Boxing Club, which was destroyed by the fire on June 14. 2017.
Fifteen months later, while the Grenfell public inquiry is in full swing, the renowned Dale Youth Boxing Club stands proud again with a renovated gym located in the tower’s shadow in Ladbroke Grove.
The club was decorated by staff from Alldec Northern and the BBC DIY SOS team and can now continue its legacy to provide a safe and prosperous club for London’s youths.
Alldec Northern’s director David Allan offered his businesses services despite the distance and volunteered to carry out the decorating works for this fantastic cause. He said: “The Grenfell tower disaster was a very distressing incident, which moved everyone.
“Alldec carry out a lot of work in London and we felt that we could give something back to the community. We steadfastly declined help from other painters as we wanted to give an excellent service and finish, which we believe was shown on the television programme.
“We received extremely positive feedback from the BBC regarding our company and our team’s positivity, work ethic and talent.”
Alldec Northern gets business advice from Straughans Accountants in Chester-le-Street.
Straughans Accountants director John Holbrook said: “We love to see our clients thriving and giving back to the community. This is as fine example of a successful business that has used its experiences and resources to help others become successful. Its not always about sales and the bottom line, business success can also be measured on the impact you make around you. We are very proud of the Alldec Northern team.”
