The Stadium of Light will host a charity ball to back the Bring John Home campaign.

Held on November 10, the ball will help raise the £300,000 needed to find a house that can be adapted to meet John Lindsay’s needs after the father-of-two broke his neck in a fall.

Following the accident in August 2016, John has been cared for at a specialist centre in Peterlee but is desperate to return to his family,

He’d just returned from a family day out when an epileptic seizure caused him to fall down the stairs of his home in Silksworth, fracturing his neck.

Though the 45-year-old has regained some mobility since the accident, John - who is dad to Jennifer, 10, and Jon, 17 - has been unable to return home because it is unsuitable for his complex needs.

John’s wife Claire, with the support of family and friends, launched the Bring John Home campaign to raise the funds needed to buy a bungalow which can be adapted for John, who is paralysed from the waist down.

The ball is the latest in a series of events to raise the funds, with previous drives including a sponsored walk from his care home in Peterlee to the Stadium of Light. It will take place in the Montgomery Suite and will consist of a three-course meal with live entertainment from a comedian and a DJ.

There will be an auction and prize draws at the end of the evening, with funds raised going towards the Bring John Home campaign.

*The Bring John Home charity ball will take place from 7pm on Friday, November 10 at the Stadium of Light. Tickets are available for £50 and can be purchased by contracting the @BringJohnHome Twitter page or via Facebook.
