An appeal has been issued to track down a man last seen near to Sunderland's seafront.
Officers are carrying out inquiries to locate 34-year-old James Whitehouse.
A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "James is originally from the Birmingham area however it is believed he was at the pier near Sunderland Yacht Club around 10.40pm on Tuesday, August 29.
"He is known to travel across the country and has links to Wales.
"He is described as white, 6ft, blue eyes, slim build and mousey blond hair."
The appeal follows on from a search of the shoreline and sea around the old North Pier and close to the yacht club last night and into the early hours after reports of a man who was threatening to jump into the water.
James, or anyone with information about his whereabouts, is asked to contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 1345 290817.
