The streets were filled with colour, music and laughter as the fun got underway. The ships’ crews paraded in alphabetical order, joined by more than 150 sail trainees who are getting ready to embark on the adventure of a lifetime.

There were costumes galore and even motorcycles to boot, with Wearside’s Hell’s Angels leading the way.
