Part of a Sunderland street will be closed to traffic from tomorrow as gas mains repair work is carried out.

Engineers from Northern Gas Networks (NGN) will begin the repair work in Tathan Street at 9.30am, and it is expected to take one week to complete.

Gas supply to customers will not be affected, but in order to carry out this essential project safely and efficiently, part of Tatham Street will be closed to traffic.

The road will be closed from the junction of Murton Street up to the junction of Borough Road for the duration of the works, and a fully signed diversion will be in place for motorists to follow.

Mick Smith, site manager for NGN, said: "We will be doing all we can to minimise any disruption to customers.

“We would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience and thank members of the public for their patience and support, and for bearing with us as we complete this essential project.”

For further information about the project, contact NGN’s customer care team on 0800 040 7766 or email customercare@northerngas.co.uk

Anyone that smells gas or suspects carbon monoxide should call the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999. This line is in operation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
