A 21-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was reportedly raped in a Sunderland park.
The attack is said to have happened early this morning in Barnes Park.
A Northumbria Police spokeswoman said: "Police are carrying out inquiries into a report of a rape that happened in Barnes Park earlier this morning, July 4.
"A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and is currently in police custody."
Neighbourhood inspector Tony Carty said: "This was an isolated incident and a man has been arrested. We do not believe there was ever any risk to the wider public."
