A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following a collision which also left two others injured.

The collision happened on North Moor Lane yesterday afternoon and led police to close off the road for several hours as investigations began.

A spokesman for Northumbria Police said: “At around 2.59pm yesterday a gold-coloured Volvo failed to stop for officers on Warwick Terrace, Sunderland.

“The vehicle was pursued by motor patrol officers and failed to stop when requested. It went on to crash into another car on North Moor Lane.

“The driver of the Volvo – a 28-year-old man – was taken to hospital for minor treatment. He was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.

“Two further men were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The road was temporarily closed while the vehicles were recovered.

“Inquiries are ongoing and anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 676 280618.”

One of the men taken to hospital was a passenger in the Volvo, while the third man was the driver of the second car involved in the collision.

The two men have since been discharged from hospital.
