Get ready honour those serving our country, past and present, at a fun-packed weekend of events to celebrate Armed Forces Day.
This year’s Armed Forces Celebration – on Friday, Saturday and Sunday – is the largest so far since its first year in 2011.
Event organiser Paul Jasper urged people to come along to Seaburn Recreation Ground to show their support.
“We have a jam-packed programme of entertainment for all the people and families of our city to come together to celebrate the commitment that our Armed Forces provide all around the world, all year round,” he said.
“An opening ceremony gets the weekend of celebrations underway at 7pm on Friday, followed by the Armed Forces Day concert, with a patriotic, flag-waving sing along.
“This is for everyone all families are encouraged to attend, for what promises to be a great, free evening.”

“It will send shivers down your back with pride,” Mr Jasper added.
Saturday evening will see tribute acts to ABBA an Queen take part in a concert. Entry is £10 and tickets can be bought on the day.
Sunday starts with a fun dog show, with numerous categories, including scruffiest dog and waggiest tail, and even an Armed Forces-themed fancy dress competition for pooches. Registration starts at 10am. The day also sees a football completion for under 12s.
Adding to the fun, will be a full fair ground, packed with rides, as well as stalls, an assault course, climbing wall, a car show and Roman reenactment.
There will also be food, refreshments and a beer tent.
