Taylor Price is top of the tots after winning this year’s Bonny Baby competition.

The youngster has been hailed the people’s choice after 3,800 voters gave him their backing in the Echo contest, which saw readers take their pick from the shortlist of three from each of the three age categories.

Taylor, who has since turned four, was taken along to our photo session at The Bridges by grandmother Carol Price, 52, from Easington Lane, alongside his two-year-old cousin Bobby.

Now the pair are set to share a gift from the Disney Store from their nan, with the family to also be presented with a gift card for the Sunderland shopping centre.

Carol, who is mum to Taylor’s father Malcolm, 30, and Bobby’s mum Shawna, 25, said: “All three on the shortlist are winners in my eyes, they’re all beautiful babies.

“I think every one deserved it.

It’s been a really big confidence boost for him.

“It’s the first time he’s been entered.

“He loved it.

“I told him if he won, he could have something from the Disney Store and when he got down after having his photo taken, he told the lady ‘My nan’s going to take me to Disneyland’ and I had to stop him and say it was the shop.

“The whole family has been behind him, and we’re from a big family and everybody has been voting.

“I can’t put into words how pleased I feel.”

Taylor’s teachers at his nursery at Easington Lane Primary have been lending their support to the vote, which saw him pip Houghton’s Jessie Ellison, who was shortlisted in the newborn to 18 month category by 100 votes and Miley Doran, from Grindon, who was top of the 37 months to five years section with 936.

Taylor’s mum Courtney Moore, 24, of Murton, said: “The whole thing’s been a really big confidence boost for him.

“We’re just over the moon, really happy.

“Everybody always comments on him when we’re out because he’s got loads of blond curls.

“He’s got really good dress sense and people always say he looks really cool.

“I’ve been voting and I’ve been up all night watching the vote to see how he was doing.

“He’s been asking ‘Have I won?’”

Taylor is brother to six-month-old Leo Graham, with his mum’s partner Stuart Graham, 27, also joining the family in supporting him in the competition.

Taylor’s angelic smile does hide a mischievous side - when waiting for his turn in the photographer’s studio he was busy messing up his hair and eating pasty, keeping his gran and aunt on their toes.

Taylor Price, of Elemore Lane, Easington Lane, came out on top in the In the 19 months to three years age group of Bonny Babies.
