The 20-year-old swapped life at his hometown Horden Sportsman ABC for the pro game with Hartlepool team, Gus Robinson Developments ABC, last year.

And he began the new chapter in good style with a 40-37 points success against the Gillingham welterweight.

Head coach Peter Cope and cornermen, Alan Temple and Dan Robinson, were pleased with Cammock’s performance and say there is plenty to build on.

“It was a good, steady start,” said Cope. “It was his debut and his first fight for a couple of years since leaving the amateurs.

“He was a bit apprehensive at times instead of letting it flow but it was a good win against a decent lad.”

Cammock, roared on by a noisy following from Horden, made a good start, using his jab well while landing one good right to the head of Mills.

An early right from the Kent boxer early in the second round served as a reminder that he was not there just for a payday but Cammock got his double jab working and connected with several combinations.

Mills came to life in the third and was worth a share of that session, but Cammock had the better of the last round, landing two nice lefts and a nice left-right from close range.

“Liam has a fantastic jab but he didn’t use it enough, but he’s only 20 and he’s a work in progress,” added Cope.

Elsewhere, Sunderland’s Thomas Essomba clinched his first pro title in just his third bout when he beat Isaac Quaye 78-74 for the International Masters Bronze super-flyweight belt.

There were points wins too for exciting Sunderland pro Isaac Macleod, Hetton light-heavy Jordan King and Seaham debutant Jordan Ellison.

Former Gus Robinson Developments cruiserweight Simon Vallily knocked out Czech fighter 40 seconds into round three of their match.
