Sad to hear about Kathy

Have your say

I was very sorry to hear the sad news that Kathy Secker, BBC Radio Newcastle presenter, had passed away at the age of 70.

She joined Tyne Tees Television as an announcer in 1976 and, three years later, after the 1979 ITV technicians’ strike, Kathy was the first presenter back on air.

I first met Kathy at Barbara Priestman Special School in Sunderland when my mam and dad, Margaret and Jimmy Christie, gave a cheque for £610 to the Grace House Appeal in March 2003.

I used to listen to the Dedications Show on BBC Radio Newcastle every Sunday afternoon, which featured music from the fabulous fifties and the swinging sixties, with such great artists as Elvis Presley, Cliff Richard and The Shadows, Gerry and the Pacemakers and The Beatles.

I won’t forget the lovely broadcaster, the late Kathy Secker.
