Have your say

It’s hardly a first class service

ONCE upon a time, in my living memory, Royal Mail provided a customer service of three letter collections a day, Monday to Friday.

Then to improve the customer experience and speed up delivery times, this was cut to one evening collection, and customers were promised a ‘next day delivery’ for first class letters, while the cost of a letter went into the stratosphere.

En route from Sunderland’s leading shopping centre on Seaham’s redeveloped seafront promenade, I stopped off at the post box at Seaton Stores (B1404) at 4.45pm to discover that the only collection is 9am.

This means a first class letter posted after 9am will take two days to be collected, so making a three-day delivery for first class.

Back on the road, I landed at Herrington just in time for the last 5pm collection and next day delivery.

This effectively adds an extra day to delivery times in areas that do not benefit from late afternoon collections.

G White,

Artworks here suffered too

PRICELESS images are smashed in the Middle East in the name of religion.

We have been through all that because the Church of England ordered the destruction of beautiful statues and stained glass windows at the Reformation.
