Have your say

Cash help for women

We are discovering there are thousands of women all over the country who need a little financial help and support to realise or develop their business dreams.

Sometimes it’s just a case of a financial nudge so that they have the finance to make their first wedding cake, start a charity of their choice or something even bigger like their own pottery, craft shop or events company.

We’ve set up F-Crowd to specifically support female entrepreneurs.

That might sound very grand but it’s not, it’s simply women with an idea or brainwave that they’ve always wanted to develop but not had the necessary funds to take the first crucial step of creating their exciting vision.

If you’d like to know more about us, then please take a look at www.f-crowd.com.

Bowling is a great hobby

Looking for a hobby this summer, try this.

I retired early five years ago to look after my wife.

I had always been a competitive sportsman and was looking for something close to home and that I could do in a couple of hours.

Golf was an option but a round of golf can take three to four hours.

I saw a letter from North Biddick Bowls Club, based in Penshaw Park on the old road from Penshaw to Washington, inviting people to try bowls.

I went along and it has proved to be one of the best decisions of my life.

The club is a very friendly one, which offers a mix of competitive league play for those who want that as well as social bowls. There is also a very active social aspect to the club as well, with several events taking place through the year.

The club has also made my wife very welcome so it has given her a new social group to mix with.

The club is always looking for new members and as it has been such a success for me, I would like to invite anyone, male or female, new starter or experienced bowler to come and try North Biddick Bowls Club.

Anyone interested can either come to the green Monday to Saturday between noon and 2pm or call me on 07938 955778. We have equipment available for people to use.

Come and enjoy the combination of sun, fresh air, exercise and social interaction.

We look forward to seeing you.

Harry Chalmers,

Look out for ward surgery
