A meaty menu is hoping to hit the back of the net with hungry diners with a range of tournament-themed burgers.

The six special burgers will be available at Tango Durham, Elvet Bridge, Durham City, throughout the duration of the contest.

Taking inspiration from six of the major nations, each dish pays homage to one of the competing sides with a tasty representation of their country’s cuisines – from the England beef patty, served in a Yorkshire pudding with sage and onion stuffing, sweet potato and ‘proper’ gravy to Germany’s bratwurst sausage, smoked cheese and sauerkraut version.

Meanwhile, the France burger features Gruyère cheese, French onion and mustard mayo, whilst the Italian version is served on a ciabatta bun and topped with olive spread, cream cheese spread and tomato and basil spread.

The Portugal dish turns up the heat with piri piri-rubbed chicken and salsa, whilst the Spanish version comes with chorizo and sundried tomatoes.

Tango owner Sam Gadd, 28 from Shincliffe, and Social Key marketing team have created the limited edition fare to run alongside the regular menu at the bar and grill which opened its doors in 2013 at the riverside location.

Sam said: “With my background as a chef, I enjoy experimenting with flavours and so this was the perfect excuse to have a bit of fun with the ingredients and carefully construct a selection that really packs a punch.

“I’m a big football fan myself and at Tango, we have a really loyal community of diners who love coming back time and time again, so there is already a lot of excitement around the new options we’ll be serving up.

“Whether they are following the tournament or not, I hope the menu will get our customers in the sporting spirit and encourage them to try something different. “And I don’t want to tempt fate but the England one is currently leading the polls on Facebook!”

Tango’s Euro 2016 menu will be running until July 10 to coincide with the final game.
