Work to restore Fulwell Mill to its former glory is under way.
The mill, in Newcastle Road, has been closed since it was damaged by severe weather in 2012.
Reader Steve Knaggs sent us these fantastic photos of workers on top of the historic building and the mill cap after it was lowered to the ground.
Sunderland City Council has reached an agreement with Sunderland North Community Business Centre to operate the mill as a heritage/visitor centre while the search for funding continues.
A £150,000 scheme will involve removing the damaged cap and sails to make the building watertight.
“We are all working hard together to return this much loved part of our city’s cultural heritage back to working order, as a visitor and education centre for everyone to enjoy,” said Coun John Kelly, Portfolio Holder for Public Health, Wellness and Culture.
