Wood fire on farmland

FIREMEN were called to Wearside farmland where a large pile of wood had been set on fire.

Crews from Washington station were called to North House Farm in Penshaw at 6pm on Tuesday where the wood, which included tree trunks, lampposts and railway sleepers, was burning.

Joe McNastry, watch manager, said there was no danger to anyone or the farm, but they were on the scene for about three hours damping down the wood to make sure the fire, near Cox Green Road and nearby woodland, was completely out.
