Woman was left scarred after being glassed in Sunderland bar

The victim had a drink poured over her before she was injured with the weapon in Lola's Bar in Sunderland in May 2014.She told police the attack initially left her too frightened to go out.She said in a statement: "I will deliberately avoid certain places."I still have a scar which is visible but I have learned to live with it."Courtney Pattison, who has two previous convictions for violence, denied during a trial at Newcastle Crown Court that she was responsible for the injury.Pattison, 23, of Rothwell Road, Redhouse, Sunderland, was found guilty of assault, which she continues to deny.Judge Sarah Mallett sentenced her to six months imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, with a three year restraining order which bans any contact with her victim.Judge Mallett told her: "A drink was poured over the victim and she was hit in the face by a glass, causing a wound above her eye."The jury decided you were the person responsible for that injury."The judge added: "Using a glass to cause an injury to the face of another young woman causing, albeit fairly small scarring, is so serious only a custodial sentence can be justified."Judge Mallett said the jail term could be suspended because Pattison has had to abide by strict bail conditions and has committed no further offences.The judge said Pattison may have "matured" in the almost two years since the attack.Pattison was ordered to pay £750 compensation to her victim.Yvonne Taylor, defending, said: "She clearly continues to deny the offence."Miss Taylor said Pattison has taken steps to improve herself and kept away from trouble.
