Woman is robbed in bag snatch

A WOMAN had her bag snatched as she walked through Sunderland city centre.

 Police are appealing for witnesses after the 22-year-old was robbed as she walked through the underpass from Market Square into Station Street.

 A man approached her and snatched her bag before fleeing in the direction of John Street, past the junction of St Thomas Street.

 He then disappeared into a back alley.

 The woman was left shaken but unharmed.

 The man is described as wearing a light grey woollen hat, blue jeans with a dark grey and light grey tracksuit top.

 He is of medium build and is about 5ft 8in tall.

 The robbery took place on Sunday, January 23, at about 8.15pm.
