A WOMAN was taken to hospital after falling down stairs within the grounds of a South Tyneside tourist attraction.

The 60-year-old suffered multiple injuries when she fell 15-20ft down steep steps at Souter Lighthouse in Whitburn.

She was taken to hospital by an ambulance after being treated and assessed by aircrew and a paramedic from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS).

The fall happened at about 1.45pm on Saturday.

The woman’s injuries were not life-threatening.
