A WOMAN has appeared in court accused of stealing £15,000 of jewellery from her employer.

Leslie Marie Gibson, 42, of Brougham Court, Peterlee, is alleged to have taken the items while she was working for Darren McCormick Jewellery Ltd of Shildon.

No plea was taken from Gibson during a short preliminary hearing at Durham Crown Court yesterday.

Paul Currer, defending, said the allegations would be denied.

Judge Christopher Prince adjourned the case for a plea hearing on November 1 and granted Gibson unconditional bail.
